The Kingsley was delighted to play its part in the recent full international soccer match to be played in Cork between the Republic of Ireland and Belarus. The Belarus squad took up residence at our 4-star Cork hotel ahead of their friendly fixture at Turners Cross, home of local side Cork City FC.
The fixture was the Republic of Ireland’s final warm-up match ahead of the upcoming European Championship in France during June and July. Manager Martin O’Neill and his assistant Roy Keane were eager to cast their eye over a number of players ahead of the final squad announcement after the game.
The Belarus Football Federation were keen to make the most of the hotel’s convenient location and its reputation as one of the leading spa hotels in Cork as the prepared for their encounter with the host nation.
Though the 2-1 loss went against the Republic of Ireland, all at The Kingsley would like to congratulate the Belarusian players on an excellent performance and win in glorious conditions at Turners Cross. We wish them luck in their upcoming 2018 World Cup Qualifying Group.
